While there are so many ways to use Dance Daze Dance Boards, our co-founder Saumirah McWoodson loves using them most for doing outdoor ballet barre classes and for learning tap dance combinations from YouTube! Throughout 2020 and 2021, Saumirah says that using her Dance Daze Dance Boards helped her to establish consistent practice routines, improve her ballet technique, and to develop her own creative practice. While Saumirah is most experienced in classical ballet and tap--as those are the styles of dance she began studying as a child and continued practicing and training in through her adult years--those who practice other styles of dance love using Dance Daze Dance Boards as well. Dance Daze Dance Boards can be used for practicing balancing,...
I had my first dance lesson at the age of 3. I don’t remember much of it, but I do remember two things about it. First, I remember there were weird stuffed animals in the window area that creeped me out. Second, I remember that I didn’t like it, and I kept going to my mom to ask for more snacks. So from there, my mom enrolled me in acting, modeling, piano lessons, and gymnastics. And, while gymnastics was a very close second, by the age of 5, and after trying out my first tap dance class, I knew dance would be my thing. (I’ll forever be grateful to Ms. Vanessa, my first tap dance teacher who told my mother...
Are you working to have a creative practice in your life or to regularly schedule time for artistic, inspiring activities that feed your soul? If so, I think that's absolutely great. But what happens on the days when you don't feel like doing the creative work? What happens when the intrinsic motivation that you usually get from participating in your creative activity isn't a strong enough reason to make you want to get out of bed in the morning? For me, something that I've learned that I must do when I'm not feeling the natural drive to create is...
I love working. More specifically, I love spending time thinking, then using my freshly-generated ideas to create a new reality. I'm someone who's highly motivated by a sense of responsibility, so when my work allows me to feel that I have the power to positively impact lives through my words, actions, or tangible creations, I'm given an indescribable sense of reward. What I love most about the work that I'm currently doing, though, is that I am working tirelessly and fearlessly to live the life of my dreams. Each day, I am working to be as happy as I can possibly be. Additionally, this way of living allows me to continually consider others. My happiest of happy vision always, somehow,...
It’s 2021, so we know from mental health experts that we SHOULD NOT believe everything we think.
Sometimes our thoughts are WRONG. Sometimes it’s just anxiety rearing its ugly little head again.
But, since it’s 2021, we also know the importance of trusting that gut instinct. Connecting with our body. Not ignoring that 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜 that just won’t go away.
So, while it’s true that thoughts aren’t always things . . . sometimes they are. And today, we’re saying, trust the feeling.
Good or bad, you know what you know. Listen to yourself. And believe yourself.
Then dance it out (or in).#dancingcolorfully#dancedazedanceboards
